The Venetian Glass Master, A wise and seasoned Glass blower who has earned the highly sort after title of Maestro. He admires a finished mouth blown Murano Glass vase which has been planned, blown by mouth, then shaped and finished using both hot and cold glass blowing techniques. To earn the tittle of Maestro, an apprentice must serve at least 15 to 20 years in a furnace before he can even be considered for this most illustrious and sort after title. The skills and expertise handed down through the generations of Master Glass blowers are brilliantly represented and proudly shown here in a stunning vase created by the modern Italian glass blower.
A dreamy sunset slowly sets over the still and calm waters that lie at the entrance to the Grand Canal, the main waterway of the Venetian island chain known as Murano. The Venetian Gondolier slowly fades into the distance as he meanders his way home after a day mesmorising tourists with the timeless beauty of Venice. This island chain and the buildings that adorn its shores embody a timeless elegance with supreme architecture, these are the images of Venice that have captured the hearts and minds of people the world over since the 13th century. Meshed in among the buildings of this stunning lagoon, are the furnaces and Piazzas, the workstation of the Venetian Master Glass blower or Maestro. Murano Glass begins lifes as a pea or a small pod of glass attached to a Pontil Rod. This small pea is then continually taken back and forth from the Piazza to the furnace and with each pass, progressive layers of Molten Glass are added, shaped and blown. The final finished items are the most loved and cherished art glass Chandeliers, Sculptures and Figurines in the world. The art of the Maestro or Master Glass Blower have been handed down from father to son, from Maestro to Servente or the first apprentice in the furnace, working and sweating in temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius to create objects of sheer beauty and breathtaking complexity - this is the world of what we know and love, MURANO GLASS!
